PROJECT BRIEF

NERIS employees are working with the architecture and engineering team, to expedite the process of acquiring permits for a roof replacement and rooftop structure renovation project for 34 buildings owned by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). The buildings are part of NYCHA’s Van Dyke I development, an affordable housing community in Brooklyn’s Brownsville neighborhood.

The roofing repairs will improve the energy efficiency and weatherproof conditions for the Van Dyke apartment building residents as well as for their community center. Repairs will include the removal of all roofing materials, flashing, insulation, masonry, drainage, and exhaust vents all the way down to the substrate. Once the existing materials are stripped, the concrete substrate and surrounding brickwork will also be assessed for damage and repaired if necessary. All old materials will be replaced with new asbestos-free, energy efficient substitutes.

NERIS serves as a liaison between the Professional of Record and the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) to ensure that all plans, drawings, and paperwork related to this rooftop renovation are filed in an accurate and timely manner, so that the project meets the NYC building, construction, energy conservation, and plumbing codes.
