PROJECT BRIEF

In 2016, a $300 million capital investment was funded for use in revitalizing New York Public Libraries (NYPL). NERIS provides Permit Expediting Services for interior gut renovations and exterior restorations associated with a major capital program renovating five (5) New York Public Library branches throughout NYC: 125th Street, Fort Washington, Hunt’s Point, Melrose, and Port Richmond. NERIS is responsible for coordination with NYC Department of Buildings, NYC Department of Transportation, and other stakeholders. NERIS is required to prepare and file permits for the construction work which involves: ADA upgrades including the addition of chairlifts, new children and teen spaces, upgrading restrooms, new heating and cooling systems for patron comfort, and technology upgrades.

Additional coordination and approvals include Metropolitan Transit Authority Buses/New York City Transit for letters of no impacts, lane closures and bus-stop impacts, as well as bus route adjustments. Coordination is required with NYC Department of Parks & Recreation for adjacent impacts. Specific permit types include Crane, Tree Protection, Lane Closures; as well as relocation of public facilities, such as benches, bike racks, and USPS mailboxes.
