PROJECT BRIEF

Nearly 10 years after Superstorm Sandy hit in 2012, many New York City residents are still recovering. New York City’s coastal areas were hit the hardest and numerous homes were destroyed. In response, The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) is the funding Resilient Homes Affordable Housing project, to provide high-quality, elevated, flood-resistant, affordable homeownership opportunities for 29 sites (39 units) that lie within the FEMA 100 Year Floodplain.

These sites were originally occupied by Superstorm Sandy dam- aged homes, and the one to two-family modular homes will create housing for low-income and moderate - income house- holds in Staten Island. The affordable homes will be environmentally sustainable and resilient to flooding and severe weather. As of late 2021, the designs have been completed and is currently in the permitting phase.

NERIS is contracted to file all necessary work permits throughout the project including applications for:
NYC Department of Finance Lot Apportionment, DOB BIS Subdivision and Builder’s Pavement Plans, DOB NOW New Building, Curb Cuts, Fence, NYC Parks Street Trees, and Certificate of Occupancy.

NERIS staff worked closely with the A/EORs for the bulk completion of Required Items, development of fence and curb cut plans, Board of Standard and Appeals submissions. NERIS also attended regularly scheduled HPD meetings and developed and maintained a Weekly Report Tracker to demonstrate progress and was disseminated to the entire project team to keep everyone apprised of current project statuses and hurdles.
