AtkinsRealis Will Design New York Broadway Junction Complex Improvements.

MONTREAL – Professional services and project management company AtkinsRéalis Group Inc. will work for Design-Builder ECCO III Enterprises Inc. ECCO III Enterprises, Inc. was awarded a 44-month contract to design and build disability access upgrades to the MTA Broadway Junction Complex.


The upgrades will help improve efficiency and bring the Complex to ADA-compliance. According to the release, the Broadway Junction transfer station sees 100,000 passengers come through, and the design upgrades will work to enhance those passengers with disabilities. The design service includes the addition of seven elevators to three subway stations and the replacement of three escalators. As well, crews will add new ADA-compliant staircases and walkways along with “improved lighting, wayfinding signage, a passenger transfer bridge between a subway station and bus station and a pedestrian bridge enabling transitions between two subway stations above surface street traffic.” There will also be upgrades made to communications and mechanical, electrical, fire protection and plumbing systems.
